We’ve been telling this week about officials with the Lake of the Ozarks community bridge sending a notice to emergency entities regarding who has to pay the toll. The notice stated that emergency personnel are required to pay bridge tolls for crossing unless it’s during an emergency and they have their lights flashing. The lake west ambulance district board of directors instructed ambulance drivers to comply with the request while Chief Ed Hancock with the Gravois Fire Protection District says he interprets the code differently. He says emergency entities have always been able to cross the bridge for free during official business and that flashing lights were not necessary. However, no official action has been taken by the district’s board. The Sunrise Beach Fire protection district has also discussed the situation but no action has been taken by them either.
