Traffic Stop Leads to Drug, Weapons Charges

A traffic stop by the Camden County Sheriff’s office allegedly resulted in the recovery of drugs and a weapon. The incident occurred Saturday when deputies pulled over a vehicle for an apparent registration violation. The driver, identified as 36-year old Dustin Burkhart, is known to authorities as a convicted felon. A K9 unit indicated a positive response on the vehicle. When deputies further searched the vehicle, they found a loaded firearm in the engine compartment. After taking Burkhart into custody, they also allegedly found contraband on his person during the booking process. He’s charged with possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of a firearm, and possession of an item not permitted in a correctional facility.
