‘Tis the season for another kind of a telephone scam…using your local fire district to take your money. The Tri-County Fire District, covering parts of Camden and Pulaski Counties, has received a report that someone is soliciting donations for a Christmas Ball that the fire district is not even having this year.
Deputy Chief Russell Hobbs goes on to the caller is spoofing the district’s phone number, which shows up on caller ID, making the call appear to be legitimate. The Tri-County Fire District does not solicit donations over the phone or email. If you receive one of the calls, you are encouraged to hang up immediately and then report it to the fire district or local authorities.
