Tunnel Found Under Cole County Courthouse

A rare and unique find for construction workers as they uncover a hidden tunnel under the courthouse in Cole County.

Officials say the tunnel was likely built sometime in the late 1800s.

It is about 6 feet tall and is made out of red bricks.

Historians are now looking into what the tunnel’s purpose would have been, as the courthouse was not built until many years after the tunnel.
