It’s probably not something you normally think about while driving until you’re faced with a decision – what to do about that turtle trying to cross the road. Spring rains and warmer weather means that turtles are starting to emerge in search of food and mates, often, forcing motorists to ultimately make a life and death choice for the turtle.
Joe Jerek, Public Information Officer for the Department of Conservation says, if you want to help a turtle along its way, there are a couple things to remember before doing so.
The Department of Conservation also encourages you not to remove a turtle from its habitat. Doing so and making it a pet in the home usually comes to an end with a slow death for the turtle.
