Persistence pays off with cell phone coverage now available in Tuscumbia. The switches to a new cell phone tower right next to the courthouse and jail were flipped and service activated just over a week ago. Miller County Treasurer Phil Lawson spearheaded the collaborative effort which involved more than two years of maneuvering through the bureaucratic channels.
The land is owned by the county and leased out to the Western Asset Company, of Saint Charles. At the current time, the Highway Patrol and AT&T are the two services provided on the tower while negotiations continue with Verizon and U.S. Cellular.
