A Tuscumbia man facing a second-degree murder charge in the shooting death of an 18-year-old from Eldon now faces a pending felony drug charge after being arrested by the highway patrol. The patrol report indicates that 42-year-old Larry Matthews was taken into custody along with 61-year-old Jamie McQuaid, of Eugene, just after 9:30 Saturday night. Pending formal charges being filed, both are accused of possessing a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. In the case of Matthews, he has been out on the murder charge after posting a reduced bond in late June…the defense claiming the shooting of Dalton Bishop, in December, was a case of self-defense after Bishop went to the Matthews home, while under the influence of meth, with the intent to cause harm. A tentative trial date on the second-degree murder and armed criminal action charges is set for early December. Matthews and McQuaid were taken to the Miller County Jail and put on 24-hour holds.
