A vehicle pursuit which began in Benton County when two subjects failed to pay for gas comes to an end in Morgan County after the vehicle is wrecked and a short foot pursuit. Sheriff Norman Dills says the sequence of events started shortly after 3:00 Wednesday morning with Benton County ending their pursuit and contacting Morgan County about the stolen vehicle. Deputies from Morgan County picked up the pursuit along Highway-135 south of Stover before losing the vehicle which went out of control crashing through a fence post and continuing off the roadway. The vehicle was discovered a couple hours later wrecked in a creek with the two occupants nearby. They were taken into custody after a brief foot pursuit and taken to the Morgan County Jail. 26-year-old Joey Hays, of Jefferson City, and 41-year-old Michael Slack, of Sedalia, both face one count of tampering with a motor vehicle with bond, for each, set at $25-thousand. They both also had other outstanding warrants.
