A couple lake area breeders are included in the annual list of the “Horrible Hundred” puppy mills released by the Humane Society. For the seventh year in a row, Missouri ranked #1 in the nation for having the most puppy mills, which John Goodwin says are businesses that don’t meet the physical or emotional needs of the animals they deal with.
This year’s list included Lone Wolf Kennels in Iberia, which is affiliated with a group that authorities say sells breeder dogs falsely labeled as rescue dogs to skirt regulations on puppy mills. The list also included a breeder in Climax Springs that was cited for poor conditions. That name has been withheld by the USDA.
