Two teenagers are in custody in connection with a series of burglaries last week in Laurie.
According to Police Chief Shane Edwards, at approximately 2 a.m. Wednesday, a Laurie Police
Department officer discovered an open window on the Loving Hands Daycare in Laurie. The building
had been burglarized and money and some food items had been taken. Later that morning, the First
Baptist Church of Laurie reported a burglary. A laptop computer and digital camera had been taken.
There were also six vehicles broken into on Dunwurkin Road in Laurie. After investigating leads developed
by the Laurie Police Department, 17-year-old Jonathan B. Shirley of Laurie and 18-year-old Dustin N. Young
of Versailles were arrested and charged with two counts of second degree burglary and six counts of
tampering in the second degree. They were being held at the Morgan County Jail. Charges are pending against
two other suspects. The laptop, digital camera, two purses and a wallet were recovered during the course
of the investigation.
