The state’s unemployment rate dropped in September. According to the Department of Economic Development, unemployment in Missouri was at 3.1% for September, down 1/10th of a percentage point from August. Over the last year, the state has seen a 1.1% growth rate in jobs, with employment growing by over 32,000 jobs. More workers are needed, though. According to a survey of more than 1600 employers, 47% of them say they are having a hard time finding skilled workers. 87% of respondents says they’re compensating by hiring less-skilled workers and then providing them with training.
