At 11:15 the Mid County Fire Protection District was called to the 2900 block of the Twin Rivers Point Road for a firework injury. When they arrived they found a 49 year old male with several fingers missing or damaged. He also had an abdominal injury. The unidentified man had apparently attempted to stand up a mortar type firework that had fallen over. The firework apparently went off as he grabbed it, causing the injuries. The man was taken to a landing zone in Greenview and flown to University Hospital in Columbia. As the Fourth of July weekend approaches, the Mid County Fire Protection District would like to remind everyone to be sure that all directions are followed when you light fireworks. And never approach or pick up any firework after it has been lit.
