The man who drowned in the Lake of the Ozarks Friday night was apparently trying to save his girlfriend, who was struggling in the water. Highway Patrol Sgt. Paul Reinch says 67-year-old Ernest Ekstam of Gravois Mills jumped off a boat near Tony’s Point, and then began to struggle himself:
A life jacket was thrown to him, but he lost conscious and was pronounced dead at the scene. Boaters passing by pulled him into their vessel. An autopsy is being conducted:
The struggling swimmer Ekstam was trying to save was able to make it to the boat on her own.
