Nearly 200 gallons on diesel fuel spilled from a flatbed semi-trailer truck on the Grand Glaize Bridge this morning, backing up traffic for between 10 and 12 miles on Highway 54 as two lanes of the bridge were closed during clean-up operations,
according to Osage Beach Police Sgt. Arylne Page:
The truck was carrying a tank of diesel fuel on its flatbed, which somehow fell off and broke open:
Osage Beach Fire Protection District Deputy Chief Terry Paul says firefighters used oil dry/absorbent material to dike the drains, expansion joints and other openings in the bridge to keep the diesel fuel from entering the lake. During containment, the state Department of Natural Resources was contacted and advisded of the situation. MoDOT responded with dump trucks loaded with sand to ssist with covering the spill.
