Us Bank was ordered to refund customers $48 million dollars on Thursday as part of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s crackdown on deceptive banking practices. It must also pay $9 million in fines and penalties. About 420,000 of US Bank’s customers were unfairly charged and will receive either a credit to their bank account or a check in the mail. The fraudulent services were sold as “add on products” to credit cards, mortgage loans and checking accounts. A US Bank spokesman said, “We regret the errors and customers will be compensated if they did not receive full services from Affinion.” The bank severed ties with Affinion two years ago when it became aware of the issues.
