The double murder trial of a Lees Summit attorney accused of killing her father and his girlfriend at their vacation home in Sunrise Beach in 2010 has ended in a mistrial even before it actually began. According to reports, attorneys for Susan Van Note learned potential jurors might have been discussing the case. Jury selection began Tuesday at 9:30 am at the Laclede County courthouse on a change of venue from Camden County. When the jury pool returned from a break at 3:30 pm Van Note’s attorneys made a motion for a mistrial which was granted by judge Kenneth Hayden. Jurors are forbidden from discussing the case among themselves until they begin deliberations. It’s uncertain as to when Van Note’s trial will begin again but it won’t be any time soon according to reports as the Judge’s court calendar is full thru the end of 2016.
