A Versailles man could spend up to ten years in federal prison without parole after entering a guilty plea, Monday, in U.S. District Court to illegally possessing firearms. 47-year-old Joseph Marin Melendez had been accused of stealing nine firearms during a July 22, 2016, burglary of the Ozark Gun and Pawn shop in Versailles. Video surveillance captured Melendez using a crowbar to pry open the door before walking behind a counter, grabbing the nine guns and then leaving the shop. Melendez was identified on the video by law enforcement and the weapons were recovered during a subsequent search of his residence. Melendez is also a convicted felon which prohibits him from possessing firearms. A pre-sentence investigation has been ordered and sentencing will be on a later date.
