Four kids are dead after an early-morning house fire in Lake Ozark.
That’s Steve Grass, Deputy Chief of Investigations for the State Fire Marshal’s office. The kids were home alone at the time the fire began, shortly before 1am Thursday. Officials speaking at an afternoon press conference said they did not know where the parents were when the fire began. They also said they saw no evidence of smoke detectors in the home, but also added that damages were so extensive, that’s not uncommon and the cause of the fire will likely not be determined. Autopsies on the children will be performed this week. Grass said it appeared as though one of the children may have woken up and attempted to escape, but it looks like the other three were likely still asleep.
