Volunteers are a vital part of the success of the Shootout. With the 30th anniversary of the event just a couple of weeks away, organizers say they can always use more help. Paul Hooper of the Lake West Chamber of Commerce says they’ve had 670 volunteers for each of the last two years, and this year, with the involvement of more charitable groups, they’re expecting to exceed the 700 mark.
Charitable groups earn money for their organizations through the work they put in to help make the event run smoothly. And Hooper says they get their money’s worth.
Hooper says workers that are not immediately assigned to an event are kept on a standby list and called in case of emergency, or if someone else can’t make it to their post. For those interested in helping this year, contact Hooper at the Lake West Chamber at 374-5500.
