We all know that Missouri has a lot of fun things to do but how does the state rank, nationwide, when it comes to having that fun without breaking the bank…?

According to WalletHub.com, the Show-Me State comes in at #16 across the country with a ranking of 18th for entertainment and recreation and 16th when it comes to nightlife.

WalletHub used 26 key indicators for their findings ranging from the cost to go to a movie to the accessibility of national parks to the number of casinos per capita.

California, Florida, Nevada, New York and Illinois were identified as the most fun states while Arkansas, Rhode Island, Delaware, Mississippi and West Virginia are at the opposite end of the spectrum.



With summer just around the corner and 86% of Americans planning to take a vacation, the personal-finance website WalletHub today released its report on 2022’s Most Fun States in America, as well as accompanying videos and expert commentary.

To determine the states offering the greatest variety and most cost-effective options for enjoyment, WalletHub compared the 50 states across 26 key metrics. The data set ranges from movie costs to accessibility of national parks to casinos per capita.

  • 19th – Movie Theaters per Capita
  • 18th – Golf Courses & Country Clubs per Capita
  • 7th – Amusement Parks per Capita
  • 6th – Performing-Arts Theaters per Capita
  • 24th – Fitness Centers per Capita
  • 21st – Casinos per Capita
  • 9th – Variety of Arts, Entertainment & Recreation Establishments
