The Lake Area’s only non-commercial indoor swimming pool is now on its own. The Westlake Aquatic Center, in Laurie, had been operating over the past several years under a cooperative arrangement between its members and the Rotary Club. On Tuesday, the Rotary gifted the aquatic center to the members making the members responsible for the everyday operations of the pool.
Board member Lucy Silliman says there will be no operational changes with the transfer of ownership. A “friends of the pool” campaign to raise funding for future maintenance and other expenses associated with the pool is underway.
