The weather we had in the winter could create a bit more dangerous spring for area firefighters. As we enter the spring fire season, Gravois Chief Ed Hancock says there’s still a lot of fuel on the ground from last fall.
Hancock says that extra tinder on the ground coupled with a lack of significant rainfall could lead to a severe spring season. Fire officials will continue to watch the weather. Residents are advised to check with your local fire district before doing any outdoor burning. Don’t burn if they tell you not to. If you do get a day where you can burn, take safety precautions – never leave the fire unattended and always have a water source nearby to help control or extinguish the fire.
