Dangerous winter weather is upon us here in the lake area and with temperatures barley above zero and wind chills below zero, the national weather service is warning folks who plan to go out in this cold weather to bundle up. Prolonged exposure to extreme wind chills can result in frost bite and can lead to hypothermia if precautions are not taken. Exposure for as little as thirty minutes can result in frost bite. Persons heading out through the next few days should prepare for bitterly cold temperatures. Wear warm clothing, whether thick jackets or sweaters or long johns as well as gloves and hats. Try to keep as much skin from being exposed as possible. Remember when you head out to check your vehicle for the proper emergency kits in case something happens. Don’t forget if you have pets to bring them inside the next few nights and add extra hay for those animals who cannot join you in the house.
