A lake area fire chief is blazing new trails for women. Annette Sharp took over as the chief for the Northwest Fire Protection District in January. She brings a wealth of experience with her, having been a first-responder for eight years.
Sharp says that spending that much time with one department makes the transition easier – but it doesn’t make the job itself easy.
Serving as first responders is a family affair for the Sharps. Annette’s husband and son also serve with the fire protection district. As for the example she’s setting for younger girls, Sharp says her advice is simple.
Chief Sharp says her first priority is helping to get the levies passed in April so they can replace equipment and lower the department’s ISO rating.
