Representative David Wood of the Lake area is working on a legislative bill that could allow accreditation of individual schools instead of their districts. Wood said recently that the legislation would enable other schools to stay open if only a few of the buildings within the district perform poorly. Wood plans to file the bill in December but the Missouri School Board says there could be challenges ahead for districts with only one elementary, middle or high school. Earlier this year legislators attempted to pass a similar bill but was vetoed by Governor Nixon. The goal of the bill is to allow students in a failing school to transfer to better performing buildings within their own district.
