Although it did not happen, officially, as part of this year’s Shootout, the overall weekend will be remembered by many for a tragic accident taking the lives of two people very familiar with the event. Richie Prince and Bradley Dunphy, from Louisiana, were killed early Friday night when a catamaran they were in hit air before rolling, hitting the water and flipping upside down. When news of the tragedy spread, the boating community responded. Mark Maasen says it was a very unfortunate incident but everyone involved in the sport knows that it can be dangerous.
Tiffany Maasen says, it doesn’t matter how big your boat, the boating community here at the lake is one big family.
A banner remembering Prince and Dunphy was put on display at Captain Ron’s for people to sign. Plans are to send the banner to Richie Prince’s family.
