The New Madrid fault zone remains active with a 2.3 earthquake recorded late Friday morning in western Tennessee.
A preliminary report from the U.S.G.S. indicates that the quake happened 4.2 miles south-southwest of Tiptonville and 21 miles north of Dyersburg with a depth of about eight kilometers.
There were also two other small earthquakes reported along the New Madrid Zone last week and seven others over the past couple weeks.
All 10 of the reported quakes, according to earthquaketrack.com, ranged from 1.7 to 2.3 on the Richter scale.
