With higher speed limits on the horizon for rural highways across the state, the Department of Transportation continues its ongoing evaluation of eligible locations.
Under the new law, which gives MoDOT the ability to raise rural speed limits to 75 miles-per-hour in certain areas, among the factors to be considered include current traffic and truck traffic volumes, crash history, terrain, road design and safety countermeasures, active construction and existing speed limits of border states near the state line.
Even though the higher speed limits can go in effect on August 28th, no changes are to be made until MoDOT completes its evaluation efforts.
