Jeff Smith Named Interim Prosecutor in Miller County

It doesn’t take long for a new prosecuting attorney to be appointed following the unexpected death on Sunday of Matt Howard in Miller County.

26^th Judicial Circuit Judge Aaron Koeppen named Jeff Smith, who has served as the assistant prosecutor, to serve in the interim until Governor Mike Kehoe makes an appointment to the position.

The position also appears on the Primary ballot in August with the winner of the General election in November to officially step into the office on January 1, 2027.

Bob Seek is the only one who filed before the deadline on Tuesday to run for the office.
