It could’ve been worse.
Last week’s first real wintry event in the lake area, as expected, did present some challenges. But those challenges, according to MoDOT Central District Area Engineer Danny Roeger, can usually be overcome or at least minimized just by some routine vehicle maintenance many don’t think about until it’s too late.
“Making sure that your tires are not bald, that you are replacing your tires appropriately and keeping enough tread life on them.”
Roeger also says that the first winter event is usually the worst because we are creatures of habit that spill over from one winter to the next.
“We get in this routine where we’re, you know, we can jump on Hwy. 54 and we can go 70 miles an hour. And during inclement weather, it’s like we forget that, hey, we, you know, maybe, maybe 50, maybe 45 is a is a better appropriate speed.”
When in doubt, motorists are reminded especially during this time of the year that their individual choices don’t just affect themselves.
