Marine and wildland fire responses get a much-needed boost in the lake area with the Sunrise Beach Fire District being on the receiving end of three portable foam units.

Chief Joseph LaPlant says that Deputy Chief Mark Amsinger was instrumental in heading up the regional initiative that secured the foam packs from the Camden County Local Emergency Planning Committee.

The foam packs, which run about $1,400 each, will be assigned to the district’s fire boats and one of the engines.

The units do not contain carcinogens and are described as being safer for the environment when deployed on the water or for wildland and hazmat incidents.
