Senate Bill 43 modifying provisions relating to protection of vulnerable persons will soon be law in Missouri.
Senator Travis Fitzwater of Holts Summit is the sponsor.
When Missouri senators began discussing Senate Bill 43 on the floor of the Missouri Senate, he told his colleagues this measure’s root cause has special meaning to him…We asked the children’s division what they’re dealing with. When we asked foster care parents and adoptive kids and adoptive and foster care parents what they’re dealing with, it’s highly concerning what the system looks like.”
This new law will also address 17 additional provisions, all of which relate to vulnerable people in our state.
These include lowering Missouri’s marriage age, something that comes from Senate Bill 66, which Sen. Tracy McCreery of St. Louis County sponsored this year…“If a 21 year old were to have sex with a 16 year old, that would be second degree statutory rape. Just because a parent gives permission for a child to be married doesn’t make it not rape.”
Senate Bill 43 will become law on Aug. 28.
