Thanks but no thanks.
The City of Eldon will continue on with local plans for the building of the Rock Island Trail by turning to a self-funding route and bypassing a grant available from the Federal Highway Commission.
During the board of aldermen’s meeting earlier this month, Administrator Mandy Asbury addressed the issue explaining that the cost savings of self-funding how the city would like the trail to be built should offset money lost by not taking the grant and having to follow specs for the project outlined by the grant.
Turning down the grant is expected to have some impact on the city getting other grants in the future but, according to Asbury, the city could then turn to trying for TAP grants instead.
A motion to reject the grant was introduced and passed unanimously by the board.
