Missouri Supreme Court Hearing Arguments About Transgender Law

The Missouri Supreme Court, on Wednesday, heard arguments in an appeal about a state law that bans children from most transgender treatments.

At issue, according to opponents, is that the law is unconstitutional because it targets a gender transition and violates the Equal Protection Clause…a claim which has already been rejected by the U.S. Supreme Court in the 8^th District.

Specifically, health care providers are prohibited from performing gender-transition surgeries on minors or prescribing cross-sex hormones or puberty-blocking drugs to minors and can have their health care licenses revoked for violations of the law which went into effect in 2023.

A decision on the appeal by the Missouri Supreme is expected to take about a month.
