The Royals bats went quiet last night and Chicago against the White Sox blanked 7 to nothing.
They would be outdone by right-hander Sheen Smith.
He was terrific. 7 shutout innings, 3 strikeouts.
He runs his record to four and seven after the seven nothing win.
On the mound for the Royals was the young lefty Noah Cameron went five, gave up six runs, couple of home runs on eight hits. His record falls to seven and six.
The Royals slipped back to two games above the 500 mark, continuing the battle for that American League wild card and the wild card spots.
Right now, they’re the first team out, four games behind the Seattle Mariners, who watched catcher Cal rally hit his 50th home run of the year last night.
Cardinals, meanwhile, post their lowest announced attendance, just over 17,000, the lowest attendance ever at Busch Stadium.
But they beat the Pirates last night on a walk off home run from Alec Burleson 7 to 6.
For Burleson, that was one of four hits on the night.
