Missouri lawmakers will meet for the special session on Wednesday for a special session on redistricting and initiative petition reform. Similar to Texas, the minority party’s strategy differs.
The call includes redrawing the districts that decide who represents Missourians in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Lawmakers are also planning to take up bills on the state’s initiative petition process, which allows citizens to amend the state constitution.
According to Lt. Gov. David Wasinger, the redistricting should have been done two years ago.
The Republicans have a supermajority and are able to meet and have a quorum and vote even without any Democratic members present. Democratic leadership said they’re meeting with leaders from other states to strategize.
Other states in the Midwest, Ohio and Indiana, are facing similar redistricting fights.
The Missouri Democrats are speaking with minority leaders in those states to discuss what they can do to ensure that folks across the country understand where the fight is.
It’s CLEAR that Missouri is the next state in the fight for seats.
