A milestone has been announced in the fight to get people to stop smoking.
Cigarette smoking is declining in the US. A national survey published in the New England Journal of Medicine found that the number of people smoking cigarettes dropped from 10.8% in 2023 to 9.9% in 2024.
However, the number of people smoking cigars or using e-cigarettes didn’t decline.
Overall, around 1 in 5 Americans report using tobacco products.
