A House Bill sponsored by lake area Representative Lisa Thomas seeking to create signage standards for state owned boat ramps at Lake of the Ozarks is now in the hands of the Senate for any further consideration.

The bill would create “Marie’s Law” would mandate that signs reading “Marie’s Message: Stay Afloat, Don’t Drink and Boat” be posted at Public Beaches #1 and #2, McCubbins Point and Pa He Tsi.

The aim of the program would be to raise awareness of the dangers of drunken boating in memory of Marie Steinkuhler of the St. Louis area. Steinkuhler lost her life in a boating accident in July of 2020 with alcohol being called a factor.

Thomas’s bill was passed out of the House and reported and first read in the Senate on Tuesday.

At the current time however, with time running out on the session, the bill does not appear on the calendar for further consideration.
