In a follow-up to a story yesterday on KRMS, reaction continues after the new Missouri Congressional Map was signed into law over the weekend by Governor Mike Kehoe.

President Trump has been pushing for the controversial new map that boosts the Republicans’ chances of gaining an additional House seat in next year’s midterm elections, but some residents aren’t too happy about it.

One resident tells CBS News quote “I would appreciate it if my district better represented who I am and who this neighborhood is,” and that “It’s not a done deal yet though. I’m hopeful that there’s so many problems in it that whomever our judicial system will stop it.”

Others say the map is more confusing, “Particularly the controversy over whether the districts were drawn in a way that’s clear or whether there are voters who are technically in two districts, and the governor seemed to say that he’ll let the courts play that out as they will.”

The new map carves up the district currently held by Democratic Congressman Emanuel Cleaver and pushes him into GOP-friendly territory.

Opponents are already leading a referendum petition drive to try to force a statewide vote on a new map.
