Lake area law enforcement is reporting another scam.
This one, according to Jimmy Breshear from the Camden County Sheriff’s Office, involves the callers spoofing caller-ID to make it appear the call is coming from the sheriff’s office and being armed with some personal details about the intended target.
“We’ve received several phone calls from citizens saying the scammers are calling saying they have warrants for their arrest, or they failed to show up for jury duty…or failed to show up as expert witnesses in and give testimony in federal court, and that they’re going to be fined…and they have to pay this money now, instead of coming into court….if they don’t want to get a warrant for their arrests…..and things like that.”
Breshear also says, when in doubt, just hang up and report as much information about the call to local law enforcement.
