You can add Camdenton to the list of Lake Area cities considering placing a tax on the sales of recreational marijuana.

Since voters approved Amendment 3 on Election Day to legalize it, Osage Beach, Lake Ozark and now Camdenton have begun discussion of levying such taxes.

City Administrator in Camdenton Jeff Hooker tells KRMS News…

“The majority of the alderman, I got the feeling, are in favor of going ahead and imposing the tax and allowing it to be sold in the city of Camdenton. But there’s a lot of other things that go along with that. So we wanted to give them a chance to go out and talk to their constituents over the next two weeks. We’re going to discuss it again on our in our meeting December 16, I believe that’s the date. And discuss it again, and then probably, if things are positive, to look at voting on it in January, because I think it’s January 24.We have to get it to be able to be put on the ballot.”

The Osage Beach City Board is expected to discuss placing a 3% tax on all cannabis at its meeting this upcoming Thursday.

Lake Ozark’s Board launched such a discussion at its December 1st meeting.

In both cases, as in Camdenton, city voters will have to approve any such plans.
