With the Memorial Day Holiday Weekend just over a week away, the Missouri State Highway Patrol has released its yearly reminder that troopers will be out in force looking for impaired boaters and enforcing rules of the waterways.

Captain John Hotz says, during the 2022 holiday, there was one fatality and four injuries resulting from nine boating crashes along with seven individuals who were busted for drunken boating.

The patrol’s effort will also extend to the roadways in an effort to prevent a repeat of 2022 when 13 people died and 507 others were injured in more than one-thousand traffic crashes.

131 others were also arrested by the highway patrol alone for driving while intoxicated.

The official holiday weekend, this year, begins at 6:00 on the evening of Friday, May 26th, and comes to an end at 11:59 Monday night, May 29th.
