Chances are, you know someone who has been affected by a stroke or what is referred to as a “brain attack.”
And when it happens, time is of the essence to seek immediate medical help.
That’s according to Crystal Lloyd, from lake Regional Health System, who says there are several warning signs to be aware of that could be the difference between long-term disability and recovery or even death.
“If they have sudden onset of dizziness, if they have visual changes…you know, blurred vision…double vision…any of those things could be concerning, that we have a posterior circulation, or a blockage in the back of the brain. And then, anytime we notice one sided facial drooping…arm weakness, speaking difficulties…then it’s time for that patient to get back to the hospital.”
It’s recommended, especially if it runs in your immediate family, to visit your medical provider for a checkup at least once every year.
Statistics show, worldwide, someone suffers from a stroke every two minutes.
