Miller County Sheriff Issues Stern Warning About Area Web Scams

The Miller County Sheriff’s Office has issued a very detailed warning about ongoing online scams and spam that can put you at risk of identity theft and more.

In a statement the office says there’s been a recent increase in posts depicting lost people, lost pets, and homes or apartments for rent.

Officials say they’ve been posted on “Community Pages” with the comments turned off to prevent people from calling out the spammer.

After the post gets shared, it often changes the content to an ad for products, including links to questionable sites.

If you don’t delete your “share”, those ads will appear on your social media account.

The sheriff’s office offers further advice saying you need to look at the author of the original post and if they have no friends or are from a foreign country, know that it’s likely a scam.
