Like many area cities, Osage Beach will give voters the chance to decide if a 3 percent city tax on the sale of recreational cannabis should be imposed.

Mayor Michael Harmison says last week the city board unanimously voted to put it before voters…“Based on amendment three and the way it was written, they put into their documents that it gives the cities the chance to add an additional 3% on top of everything else. And this is for recreation, recreational marijuana, but it has to be citywide up or down vote based on majority. And so we simply said, yes, we will put it on the April ballot.”

Harmison says the board has already decided where the revenue raised would go…“police, parks and ambulance services….all three of those could be negatively impacted by another recreational drug.”

Harmison spoke on Monday’s Morning Magazine on NewsTalk KRMS.
