The West Side Of The Lake Could Soon Be Home To Military Tribute

The west side of the lake will soon be home to a tribute recognizing past and current service to our military.

Lake West Chamber Director Mike Koenigsman says a patriot rock project, also referred to as a freedom rock, is underway and pretty self-explanatory.

“The patriot rock is a giant rock that is painted in a patriotic scene.”

Koenigsman also says, while the chamber may be spearheading the project, he expects the final result to go on display will be a community-wide effort.

“We’re going to do a patriot rock here in Laurie, and it’s going to be a nice little park. We’ve got some guys coming in to help paint that, but we are looking for some fundraising and donations for that. So we’re going to start putting that out on our website.”

The original Freedom, or Patriot, Rock went on display in  May-1999 in Adair County, Iowa…it’s about 12-foot tall and weighs some 60-90 tons.

A timetable for the Freedom Rock to be complete and on display on the west side of Lake of the Ozarks, has not been announced.
