Washington Man Drowns In Missouri River

A 22-year-old from Washington, Missouri, is dead after drowning at the 54-mile mark of the Missouri River in St. Charles County.

The highway patrol says it happened late Sunday afternoon when the man was wading in water behind a sandbar before stepping off the edge into deep water, struggling and failing to resurface.

His body was recovered and he was pronounced dead on the scene.

He was not wearing a safety device at the time.
