The Linn Creek man accused of being the driver in an alleged drunken driving fatal accident Monday afternoon has now formally been charged in Camden County.

Courthouse records indicate Steven Vonderschmidt, Senior, is charged with a class-C felony for DWI-death of another and a class-E felony for DWI-causing physical injury.

It’s alleged that Vonderschmidt had been westbound on U.S. 54 near Macks Creek when he lost control of his vehicle which travelled into the path of a westbound vehicle.

A passenger in the westbound vehicle, a 73-year-old woman from Arcola, was pronounced dead a short time later at Lake Regional while the driver suffered moderate injuries.

Vonderschmidt, who had his license revoked for a year in late November-2020 for refusing to submit to a chemical test after a previous alcohol-related offense, was seriously hurt in the accident this week.

As of Wednesday morning, Vonderschmidt was not showing as in custody in Camden County.

His bond was set at $150-thousand.
