The wheels of justice continue to turn slowly in Camden County as the prosecuting attorney’s office continues trying to get a handle on the numbers of cases that have yet to reach the courtroom and be resolved.

“One of the things that we’re really seeing is just like the specific prosecutor who deals with crimes against women and children. There’s cases from 2018 still hanging around. I mean, we have a backlog.”

Prosecutor Richelle Grosvenor says one major factor playing a role in creating the backlog was the recent pandemic.

“COVID really slowed down any sort of jury trial process. Could not get jury panels in because of, you know, this supposed risk to health and that kind of a thing.”

Since the beginning of the year, there have been nearly 23-hundred cases referred to the prosecutor’s office with the numbers of domestic cases accounting for the majority of the referrals.
