Lake Ozark P&Z Votes To Recommend Changes In Short Term Rentals

The parking lot and meeting room at Lake Ozark City Hall were nearly overflowing last evening as the city’s Planning and Zoning Commission considered a proposed zoning ordinance repeal that would allow short-term vacation rentals in the city.

Commission members heard public comments – mostly in opposition to the change – but then voted to recommend passage of the proposal to the City Board of Alderman.

If the proposal wins the board’s approval it would repeal a longstanding ordinance prohibiting vacation rentals in R-1 and R-2 zoning districts.

Many residents say short term rentals in residential neighborhoods are a nuisance and lower property values, while proponents claim they would be good for the city’s overall economy.

The Board of Alderman could act on the measure as soon as next week’s Tuesday meeting.
